I was disappointed to see that we waste space in key areas where we can influence and inspire the people around us.
What is saw at my local station was saddening, when the vegetation beside the train platform was stripped back, the litter left by everyone was shown and it had made me think that it is odd that our Transport agencies and organisations don’t tackle these spaces to make it more inclusive with a space for collaboration and interaction.

Yes these spaces beside platforms are designed for safety between local homes that face the train line but in most cases these green abandoned spaces do not reduce train noise and visibility from such close proximity.
There’s so much wasted space that is littered and which could be given to the community and looked after by the people.

Its not just about a place for a community to grow food but its about being able to share knowledge about the care of soil to reduce the impacts of conventional agriculture.
The world grows 95% of its food in the uppermost layer of soil, making topsoil one of the most important components of our food system. But thanks to conventional farming practices, nearly half of the most productive soil has disappeared in the world in the last 150 years, threatening crop yields and contributing to nutrient pollution, dead zones and erosion.
Without topsoil, the earth’s ability to filter water, absorb carbon, and feed people plunges. Not only that, but the food we do grow will probably be lower in vital nutrients.
Increase in Lawn does not make impacts on reducing carbon and in most cases the grass that we may grow can be vary rigorous in the way it grows sucking moisture out the soil which is much needed for soil health. A lot of modern methods of increased garden spaces that take form of seasonal growing with Permaculture principles, No tilling (No Dig) ideas and the likes of focused plant beds can all help the earths living microorganisms that look after our planet.
This has made me think about whether National Rail and TFL can make good in several boroughs by providing a space for community gardens/allotments. By making good on this there is more self care for the environment we live in but also there is opportunity for teaching. Keen gardeners and organisations can use the space to share knowledge with every day commuters on how they can create the same environment in their own back gardens. In turn we are able to save cost on our own monthly food purchases but also we can all do our part to create a a better planet and turn back time on those climate effects that are so important to tackle now.
The sketch series that you have seen in LinkedIn is taking a slightly different turn where I want to share issues and present ways in which we can tackle some of the problems we face today. All of this I hope to encompass a root a Sustainable and Environmental Design. I will still share some of the sketches that I do but I want to push towards a more programmes based drawing that can spark conversation and action.
